Presa Canairo
Description : A large Molosser-type dog breed originally bred for working livestock. Is a dog with thick muscular body. The chest is deep and broad. The rump is slightly raised. This breed has thick skin, dense bones. The head is broad, massive, square and powerful. The ears are normally cropped, both to create a more formable expression and to prevent damage while working with cattle.
Males – average between 23 to 26 inches at the withers with a minimum weight of 100 pounds and a maximum weight of 160 pounds.
Females – average between 22 to 25 inches at the withers with a minimum weight of 85 pounds and a maximum weight of 125 pounds
Temperament : Calm, attentive and gentle around child. Presa Canarios are confident, unafraid and even-keeled. They make great watchdogs and guard dogs, defending what is theirs to the death. They are quiet and rather subdued at home, and devoted to family. They can be difficult to train, as they can be stubborn and dominant. They certainly like to domineer over other dogs, and will not tolerate them unless they are submissive. The Presa Canario needs proper training and socialization at a young age.
With Children : GREAT, gentle and calm. I have personally raised my three children around presa's and can truthfully say that I would never own any other breed.
With Pets : Can be dog aggressive without the proper socialization.
Guard-dog : Highly motivated. Very protective of its property. An excellent home guardian, the Presa is wary of strangers. If not trained, the Presa Canario can become suspicious and aggressive towards any stranger; therefore training must occur at a young age.
